Suggested Crimping Tools for Use with Amerace® Connector Kits

Introduction

Field crimping of the contacts of Amerace® connector kits will generally be done manually, with one of two types of tools.

The first type are essentially a pair of pliers, with a crimp die instead of jaws. These tools are inexpensive, and easy to use, but have the disadvantage that it is possible to under crimp a connection.

The second general type has a ratchet action, whereby once a closing has begun, it must be completed before the tool will open. This ensures a full crimp.

Either type of tool may be used, but Amerace suggests that the ratchet type be used where possible to most consistently achieve good electrical connections.

The following tools are suggestions only. Others may be used if the user verifies proper crimping,

* All primary crimps should be made with 2 crimps. Rotate the second crimp or indent at least 90º from the first.
