Frequently Asked Questions

Cable Assemblies
1. Q: Most of the cables you list have thermoplastic rubber insulation and jackets/sheaths. Can you bond connectors to other types of cables?
A: In most cases, no. We make extensive use of thermoplastic rubbers in our products because they have high dielectric strength, low water absorption, and excellent resistance to chemicals commonly found on airfields.

The reason we use thermoplastic rubber cables is that our connectors are also molded of thermoplastic rubber. Since the two materials are the same, they bond very well together, forming a very strong, watertight bond. There are sometimes ways to bond to dissimilar material, but a considerable amount of development work is required.

We have perfected this bonding for Teflon, since Teflon is very suitable for high temperature fixtures such as inset lights.
